The short answer
It's not about the calendar, it's about the thermometer. Above freezing and dry-ish, windows can absolutely be cleaned.
Along the Wasatch Front we get plenty of clear, mild winter days in the 40s and 50s. Those are perfectly good window-cleaning days, and they're often bright and sunny, which is exactly when you notice dirty glass.
Why winter cleaning is actually appealing
Daylight is scarce and you want all of it. December daylight in Utah is short. Filtering what little you get through a film of grime is a genuine quality-of-life hit for anyone who's home during the day.
Inversion. Valley inversion parks particulate over the county for weeks at a time and it settles on everything. Windows show it.
Holidays. Anyone hosting between Thanksgiving and New Year's notices the glass.
Scheduling is easier. Spring is our busiest season by a wide margin. Winter, you're not competing with everyone else.
When we won't do it
Below freezing. Water freezes on the glass before it can be squeegeed. You get ice, streaks, and a risk of stressing cold glass. Not worth it.
Active snow or heavy wind. Pointless — it'll be dirty in an hour.
Ice on the ground or on walkways. Safety, both ours and yours.
We watch the forecast and schedule around it. If a day turns, we reschedule — we'd rather move you than do a bad job.
What's realistic in winter
- Exterior glass: yes, on above-freezing days
- Interior glass: yes, always — indoor work doesn't care about weather
- Screens: usually already stored, and washing them in the cold isn't ideal
- Tracks: yes, and worth doing before they hold ice
Winter is honestly a great time for an interior-only visit. It's the season when you're inside looking out the most, and it's completely weather-independent.
The realistic expectation
Winter cleaning gets your glass genuinely clean, but it won't stay clean as long — road spray, snowmelt, and inversion see to that. Think of it as a mid-season reset, not a substitute for the spring cleaning that does the heavy lifting.
